We have created a detailed action plan for the Queensland Government to address some of the big concerns for Queenslanders as we age and create a state for all ages. The action plan gives a clear direction to achieve our Vision for Queensland.
In February the Hon. Mick de Brenni MP, Minister for Housing and Public Works, Minister for Digital Technology and Minister for Sport convened the first meeting for 2019 of the Ministerial Housing Council. COTA Queensland is establishing a Policy Panel to inform our advocacy.
COTA Queensland is supporting The Older Persons Homelessness Prevention Project which aims to improve awareness and take action on the increasing prevalence of housing problems facing older people on lower incomes and assets in Australia who have not attained secure and affordable housing.
Homelessness does not discriminate and can affect anyone - from young, single people to families with children, to our older population. A staggering 20,000 people in Queensland are experiencing homelessness.
