MEDIA RELEASE: Seniors 1,2 and Free

Council on the Ageing (COTA) Queensland, the seniors peak, has called on the Palaszczuk Government to retain the ‘One, two, free for seniors and pensioners’ to enable seniors who use their go card to travel free for the rest of the day after two journeys.

“Retaining this travel benefit would be welcomed particularly by pensioners,” said Mark Tucker-Evans, Chief Executive COTA Queensland.

“Seniors are among the most reliant on public transport to get around including travel to the social opportunities that add to their quality of life, medical appointments and visiting family.

“Cost of living pressures are significant for Seniors living on their retirement income and any measure that reduces the cost of travel of public transport will help address these concerns,” said Mr Tucker-Evans. COTA has called upon the government for a thorough review of the fare system to ensure concessions are targeted to those who need them the most.

“With the final report from the Government’s fare review to be released this month COTA is calling for a fairer and more affordable system of fares for South East Queensland,” said Mr Tucker-Evans.
