Dudley’s Story – How about we go and see Bradman

Dudley is an amazing man.  He is not only one of the faces of 2014 and  2015 Queensland Seniors Week,  he is a WWII Veteran, has a cheeky sense of humour, is a mad fan for cricket and an avid cyclist in his youth.

“We’d ride the bikes anywhere”

In 1937, he and his brother cycled 120 miles to see “The Don” also known as Don Bradman play cricket. They packed sandwiches and at midnight they hit the road on their bicycles. Riding through night, they hit Melbourne at 8 o’clock in the morning.

After finding their way to their aunties and a quick breakfast, they caught the train in to watch the cricket.

Dudley recalls Don Bradman making a 165 that day and not one ball getting past his bat. When the day was over, they had a bit of tea, a four-hour rest and rode the 120 miles back home.
