COTA Queensland meets with Western Queensland

Paul and Sherryn from COTA Queensland were invited to present at two community consultation forums on ageing and disability in Roma and Longreach organised by the Western Queensland Primary Health Network (WQPHN).

The forums were an opportunity to provide information on Australia’s aged care system to a diversity of service providers across the human services sector and community members. It was also an opportunity for COTA Queensland to hear about the experiences and challenges faced by service providers and community members in getting the support they need either under the NDIS or the Aged Care System.

One common thread was the challenge of recruiting and retaining staff across all sectors in regional Queensland.

We look forward to the outcome of the current wage case in the Fair Work Commission around improving the remuneration for workers in the aged care sector.

Sherryn also met with staff members, representatives and members from the Central West Community Options Program, the Winton Neighbourhood Centre, Winton 60’s & Better, Winton Shire Council and Winton Community and Aged Care Services. These discussions provided valuable insight into the aged care services provided in Winton and surrounding areas, and the experiences and needs of the community.

The forums were held at:

  • Roma Explorers Inn, 44778 Warrego Hwy, Roma on Tuesday 22 June 2021 from 8:30am-12:00pm Service Providers & 1:00pm – 5:00pm Community.
  • Birdcage Hotel, 33 Duck St, Longreach on Thursday 24 June 2021 from 8:30am-12:00pm Service Providers & 1:00pm – 5:00pm Community.
