We continue to actively seek recognition of the positive contribution that older people make economically and socially to Queensland. We are strong advocates for an Age-friendly Queensland promoting intergenerational interactions, to enable people to grow to their fullest capacity.
COTA Queensland has been appointed to the Taskforce to advise the Queensland Government on housing options and approaches to support older Queenslanders to retain their independence into old age and control how and where they live.
A pre-election COTA Queensland survey of 128 older residents conducted in November and December 2014 identified three recurring concerns - health, cost of living, and transport.
There was a shared view from many participants that ‘feeling invisible’ hindered their daily lives, their relationships with people, and the accessing of the support services they required. While a wide range of issues were discussed, there were some key themes which emerged.
