Ageing in Your Community

Australia’s Aged Care system has experienced significant change over recent years and more change is expected following the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. One of the recommendations from this and previous reviews is to create a single care in the home support program. This would combine many of the services of the current Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and Home Care Packages (HCP) into one single program.

Through the Ageing in Your Community project, we are engaging with a range of stakeholders across regional, rural, and remote Queensland to deepen our understanding of the strengths Commonwealth Home Support Program funded organisations bring to communities.  We are also interested in learning how these services interact with other supports in the community to create places and spaces where people can age well.

Stage 1 – Ageing in your community

The purpose of this stage was to listen to people’s experience of ageing in a number of regional, rural and remote communities.  This involved:

  • Bringing together small groups of people to answer specific questions about the experience of ageing through kitchen table discussions.
  • The same questions were provided in a survey.
  • We also conducted a number of key informant interviews.

Stage 2 – The Commonwealth Home Support Programme in Your Community

The aim of this stage is to understand the interconnected links between formal aged care support services and broader community and social infrastructure which fosters communities where people can age well.   Our engagement will focus on CHSP service providers, related aged care services, local government, PHNs, hospital and health services, community organisations, and those who are receiving aged care support.

To contribute, please complete the survey by 16 June here.

Once this stage is completed we will share what we have learnt and how we have used your contributions here.
