Today most Queenslanders can expect to live into their eighties and some beyond. Longer life provides the opportunity to reconsider not only what older age might be but how our whole lives might unfold.
When we focus on the group of older Australians who are not doing so well at the moment, we see numerous challenges related to finances, health, age discrimination and a general lack of trust in Government and the future.
Every Australian should be able to live well, with dignity and independence, in their own community of choice and with choice of appropriate and affordable support and care services when they need them.
Every single one of us has our own story, so the lesson is to acknowledge me as an individual – don’t just look at the surface and see the wrinkles and grey hair, or frail exterior. Ask me what
my story is and what makes me feel inspired and motivated now.
