What do Australians think of ageing and aged care?

The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety has released two research papers on Australians’ views on older age and aged care. The research included a national survey of over 10,000 adults and a large qualitative study by Ipsos involving 35 focus groups and 30 in‑depth interviews.

The Royal Commissioners, Honourable Tony Pagone QC and Ms Lynelle Briggs AO, said the research confirms Australia’s aged care system needs major reform in order to align with community expectations. “Australians want the Government and community to assist older people to live well in their own homes for as long as possible. The Royal Commission has been investigating how to achieve that.”  Both research papers are available on the Royal Commission’s website.

  1. I don’t feel very confident that the so called reform in aged care facilities will be to a satisfaction that is necessary … inequities, discrimination, attention to care, no respect are just a few real concerns … sad it’s no longer personal – its treated as a business hence “care” isn’t a priority … suggest all CEO’s should spend a week in care – hmmmmm!! ? God willing we will grow old so “treat our loved ones the way you would like to be cared for” ?
