MEDIA RELEASE: Fairer Fares for South East Queensland

COTA (Council on the Ageing) Queensland, the Seniors Peak, welcomes today’s announcement from the Palaszczuk Government, to increase the affordability of public transport in South East Queensland.

“The Fairer Fares package reforms is good news for seniors with the holiday season just around the corner” said Mark Tucker-Evans, Chief Executive COTA Queensland.

“Seniors are among the most reliant on public transport to get around including travel to visit family, and for social opportunities that add to their quality of life including to medical appointments.

“Cost of living pressures are significant for seniors living on their retirement income and any measures that reduce the cost of public transport will help address these concerns,” said Mr Tucker-Evans.

“By retaining the ‘One, two, free for seniors and pensioners’ will enable seniors who use their Go Card to travel free for the rest of the day after two journeys.”
