Informing Communities throughout Queensland

David Peace, a COTA Queensland Peer Educator, was in Mackay last month delivering a series of information for older Queenslanders about the Australian Government’s reforms to home care packages and accessing services through My Aged Care. He ran eight sessions throughout the week’s engagement for a wide range of groups in the Mackay area.

Since July 2014 COTA’s Home Care Today Peer Education Program has been delivering sessions to older Australians on Consumer Directed Care in Home Care. To date 14,622 people have attended sessions. Here are some quotes about what they have learned during the sessions:

  • It is possible to design a personal care package with my provider’
  • When I need help I will know where to go’
  • ‘I could be organising more than I currently do’
  • ‘There are available services to assist me to age without leaving home’
