Healthy Ageing Community Study

Interested in being part of a world first research study coordinated by a group of Australia’s top Universities?

As people age, their quality of life is increasingly affected by frailty, memory decline and chronic diseases such as heart disease and stroke. Unfortunately, many older people will eventually develop some level of disability that results in a loss of independence and the need for residential care.

STAREE (STAtins in Reducing Events in the Elderly) is a clinical trial, run in collaboration with your General Practitioner, investigating whether cholesterol lowering medication, known as statins, can prolong good health and maintain independence amongst older people.

You may be eligible to take part in the study if you are aged 70 years or over, do not currently take a cholesterol lowering medication and have no prior history of heart disease, stroke or diabetes.

By participating in this study, you will help us learn more about the benefits and risks of statin use in people aged 70 years and over. This knowledge will guide the use of statins by millions of people worldwide. Participation of individuals such as you is vital for a successful study.
