Free resource guide help providers in their response to sexual assault

Australian Association of Gerontology (AAG)  has developed a guide to help aged care providers to respond to unlawful sexual contact in their facilities and support victims and their families.

The free resource, Unlawful sexual contact in residential aged care: A practical guide for aged care providers supporting victims, has been developed by AAG’s 2019 Glenda Powell travelling fellow Dr Catherine Barrett in collaboration with the Older People and SexuaLity Institute. The resource has been featured in the Australian Ageing Agenda, helping to spread awareness and aid appropriate response to unlawful sexual assault. You can read the article here.

The resource guide is a response to the mounting reported sexual assault incidents, lack of adequate education on unlawful sexual contact and the 2021 introduction of the Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS).
